What is a dental emergency?
It is vital that patients understand what warrants a dental emergency and what can be addressed the next day during regular business hours. There are several situations that might arise in which a patient might need to see a dentist urgently. Below are just a few of the more common dental emergencies seen at the practice of BLUSH Dental Studio:
- Toothaches: These can be caused by various issues, including infection, decay, or a foreign object lodged in the gums. If you are experiencing a moderate or severe toothache, rinse your mouth with warm water and carefully floss around the tooth. If the pain persists, contact our office right away.
- Knocked-out tooth: Time is definitely of the essence when it comes to a knocked-out tooth. The sooner you can get to our office, the better the chances are that we will be able to save your tooth. Rinse off the tooth gently and try to place it back into its socket if possible. If you cannot or are not comfortable doing so, store the tooth in a small glass of milk until you can get to our office.
- Broken tooth: A broken tooth can be caused by an injury or biting down on something hard. Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to reduce swelling. Contact our emergency dental office as soon as possible so that we can repair your tooth.
- Loose crown: If your dental crown becomes loose, try to slip it back into place over the tooth. If it does not stay in place, bring it with you when you come into our office so that we can reattach it.
